Paul a.k.a Don Pablo’s Shacks plays sweet and deep music from soul jazz, Latin soul, funk and modern soul alongside house, hip hop and neo-soul as well as roots reggae, dub, rocksteady and lovers rock on his Blaxit Radio morning shows.
Hailing from north London, Paul began collecting in the late 70s where his love of roots and culture was formed in blues dances and by following sound systems. He began DJ-ing in the 80s in The Soul Soc across the midlands and back in London into the early 90s at one-offs and house parties. His blend of jazz-funk, deep soul, latin and rare grooves make his shows a journey through the grooves, and his deep love of roots reggae, rub-a-dub, rocksteady, lovers’ rock and dubwise version excursions are critical listening to the reggae music connoisseur.
Paul and his family migrated from London to Costa Rica in 2013, his sons were educated here, and his daughter is still going through school in Heredia, and so has embraced life in Costa Rica with both hands. He may even break into Spanish in his broadcasts and has friends here in the jazz scene as well as musical contacts across the globe which will mean he will be playing new music as and when he can.
Paul began radio presenting in Costa Rica and managed and DJed for ThamesFM a UK based broadcaster, for some three years. He is now a part of a new Station – Soul Roots Radio – as well as bringing his love of music to the Costa Rican and Blaxit Radio listening public.
